Recent History Curatorship
The Recent History Curatorship collects and keeps museum material from the Dolenjska area
from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day.
The concept of collecting material used to be different – prior to 1990 the Recent History
Curatorship was called the NOB (National Liberation Struggle) and People’s Revolution
Department, and the emphasis was on collecting material on the prewar workers’ movement and
on the military and political events of 1941–1945. Thus the curatorship keeps 1,200 items
and relatively rich photographic documentation with 19,000 photographs, numerous documents,
and an extensive collection of Partisan and enemy printed matter, while there is very
little other material from the period before and after the Second World War. The
curatorship also has its own archive.
For the future a reorganisation of the permanent exhibition is planned, and this should
provide a more balanced presentation of events, milestones and progress in Dolenjska from
the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. In recent years efforts have
therefore been under way to collect as much material as possible from the periods before
and after the Second World War.
